Effect of a high dose of cimetidine on biliary, intestinal and fecal bile acids in rats.

چکیده
Effect of an intraperitoneal injection of cimetidine at a daily dose of 160 mg/kg for two weeks on biliary lipid secretion, fecal excretion of bile acids and intestinal bile acids was studied in rats. Bile flow, biliary lipid secretion and fecal excretion of bile acids remained unchanged, while the pool size of bile acids decreased by cimetidine treatment. Chenodeoxycholic acid increased with a concomitant decrease of beta-muricholic acid in the biliary bile acid composition of cimetidine-treated rats.

Fecal losses of sterols and bile acids induced by feeding rats guar gum are due to greater pool size and liver bile acid secretion.
The effect of dietary guar gum (GG, 7.5%) on lipid metabolism and on bile acid secretion and reabsorption was investigated in rats adapted to cholesterol-free or 0.3% cholesterol diets. Compared with controls (fiber-free/cholesterol-free), rats fed cholesterol had significantly elevated plasma and liver cholesterol and triglyceride. In these rats, GG had a potent plasma cholesterol-lowering eff...

Reddy and Wynder (13) investigated fecal bile acids and neutral sterols of various population groups: North Americans consuming a high-fat, mixed western diet; North American Seventh-Day Adventists consuming a diet without meat and moderately low amount of fat; Japanese on a low-fat diet; Chinese consuming low-fat Chinese diet; and strict vegetarians consuming a low-fat vegetarian diet. A signi...
متن کاملAge-related changes in cholesterol and bile acid metabolism in rats.
Age-related changes in serum and liver cholesterol, phospholipid and triglyceride levels, serum lipoproteins, biliary secretion of cholesterol, phospholipid and bile acids, and fecal excretion of sterols and bile acids were examined in Sprague-Dawley and Wistar strain male rats, 7 to 106 weeks in age. Serum and liver lipid levels increased with age in both strains but the liver phospholipid lev...
متن کاملEffect of different olive oils on bile excretion in rats fed cholesterol-containing and cholesterol-free diets.
The mechanism of the hypocholesterolemic effect of olive oils was investigated in 60 Wistar rats adapted to cholesterol-containing and cholesterol-free diets. The rats were divided in six diet groups of 10. The control group was fed only basal diet (BD), which contained wheat starch, casein, cellulose, and mineral and vitamin mixtures. For the five other groups, 10 g/100 g virgin (virgin group)...
متن کاملHepatic cholesterol and bile acid metabolism and intestinal cholesterol absorption in scavenger receptor class B type I-deficient mice.
The scavenger receptor class B type I (SR-BI), which is expressed in the liver and intestine, plays a critical role in cholesterol metabolism in rodents. While hepatic SR-BI expression controls high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol metabolism, intestinal SR-BI has been proposed to facilitate cholesterol absorption. To evaluate further the relevance of SR-BI in the enterohepatic circulation...
